Knowing God is always compassionate to every creature I offer emotional support and prayer to those experiencing the illness and transition of a beloved animal. Also to celebrate the beginning of the joyful bond between animal and human. The Animal Ministry offers resources, presence, passion and enthusiasm to our community and the larger world by giving a meaningful voice to every creature, especially where neglect, cruelty, degradation and commercial exploitation are concerned.
Guiding Spiritual Principle: All of life contains God and is worthy of love and respect
Beautiful to See
Parrot lands and preens its wings
It knows the truth of why it sings
You may say its Parrot’s pride
But it’s so Parrot can ride
Currents of wind God sent its way
Now Parrot can fly from shore to bay
Parrot knows who it’s meant to be
Free and graceful, beautiful to see
Flying in the arms of God’s winds
Parrot’s perfect tune it sings
It knows it’s safely held
Bird, wing and song then meld
Parrot lands and preen its wings
I am as confident so I sing
Soaring in God’s love for me
Like Parrot, I’m beautiful to see

Since 1995, Marti Meyer has been our music director. Skilled as a pianist, a musical coordinator and a transposer extraordinaire, Marti attracts brilliant guest musicians to share their talent with us on a rotating basis. Since 1995, Marti has consistently provided live accompaniment to all guest musicians (when required), and has attracted Gene Ibrahim (lead guitar), Virgil Nichols, our (stand up and electric) bass player, Sharon Earl (percussionist) with Jon Chengary as monthly drummer.
Under Marti’s leadership, we also now have a choir, the CSLD Voices, which rehearses and performs monthly on the third Sunday.
We are welcoming a regular drummer and other musicians and singers. Please contact Marti Meyer at firstname.lastname@example.org.
The Center for Spiritual Living, Davis hosts a full lunch of salad and sandwiches every Sunday immediately after service. Our food ministry makes sure there are vegan, vegetarian, dairy, and gluten free options in every meal. About every quarter we have a full scale potluck where congregants bring hot turkey, soups, wonderful desserts, and creative salads. The head of our food ministry is Chris Kitinoja.
Our dance ministry is headed up by practitioner Bobbie Bolden who is professor emeritus of dance from the University of California at Davis. The ministry performs full scale dance pieces at big events, such as installations and ordinations, and periodically provides their gift during Sunday services, sometimes accompanied by the CSLD Voices. The dance ministry also has facilitated workshops. The Peregrine School space has a full dance room with wooden floor, mirrors and bars.
No event would be complete without ushers. Ushers greet with smiles, programs, directions, and hugs (if welcomed) and also welcome newcomers with flowers and information packets. They also help set up the room and set out information about upcoming events at the center and in our community.
Support & Outreach Ministries
We are a loving and caring community that holds a vision of supporting every congregant with visits, calls, and knowing that all is well when they can’t know it for themselves. Currently, the practitioner core fulfills most of these functions, but we are welcoming in a full support and outreach program staffed by lay volunteers.
